LittleBigPlanet: The Computer

We have talked about Little Big Planet a few times on this site. It was the first game I purchased when I got my PS3. It is a very pretty side scrolling platformer with some of the most intense game play I have experienced. It is full of levers, slides, platforms, blocks, and just about everything one could think of. They also have a very highly developed user's toolkit that people can use to create their own levels and publish them for all us to play.

It appears that one person has effectively created a computer within the game that plays "The Game of Life". No, not that Milton Bradley game where you drive a car around a map, but Conway's Game of Life, which (apparently) if you are a computer scientist you have probably studied.

There are four rules that govern the game:
1. Any live cell with fewer than two live neighbours dies, as if caused by underpopulation.
2. Any live cell with more than three live neighbours dies, as if by overcrowding.
3. Any live cell with two or three live neighbours lives on to the next generation.
4. Any dead cell with exactly three live neighbours becomes a live cell.

So through a combination of and/or gates built via the user toolbox of LittleBigPlanet, a person has created this game, basically making a working computer inside it. If any of you know of Conway's Game of Life and would like to explain a bit of what is going on in this, please do! Link to article and Video
