Players in select states around the U.S. have found that their monthly subscription fee is slightly higher than expected. With the rise of many online subscription-based services, several states have begun to apply a tax to services that use such a model, and this tax is an additional cost that players are seeing added onto the base subscription rate.
Specifically, residents of the following states will be charged this tax:
- Arizona
- Illinois
- Massachusetts
- New York
- Texas
- Washington
I caught that here. My Google-Fu is weak today, so can any of you US residents check and confirm if that is indeed the case, please? This is more out of curiosity than anything else.

Meh, its a service, similar to the one we all pay tax on when we go to the Go-Kart tracks.
So you can confirm it is happening?
Confirm? No. I know pip lives in one of those states, so he should be able to.
Took a looksee about what I could find in the news section, set the parameter for when the article should've been published to two weeks, which seemed more than enough.
Texas, Arizona and Massachusetts at the least have increased sales tax. However, not sure about the online component considering retailers in Massachusetts are complaining that online retailers don't have to pay it.

No mentioning of any online taxes anywhere for the three states I've mentioned.
I also noticed that in the link you provided, they referred to something said over at WoW.
I've checked both WoWBlues.com, as well as the US support section. No mention of a tax increase. WoWBlues had an incidental post about taxes here and there, but nothing like what your linked post suggested.
Tan's quote is taken from Blizz's official website: HERE.
in all honesty, i didn't notice a change. (or course i'm also tempted to slap on the word "yet" as i'm sure i've either a. missed something or b. illinois just hasn't implemeneted it at this time but will quite soon)
Aaaah, I was using the term sales tax as a parameter, hence why it came up zilch.
Thanks for the point out. :)
