Yes, I am fine. Back hurts like absolute hell after shoveling my townhouse's area and my in-laws driveway and entire cul-de-sac. Why? Because snow plows -still- have not made it up to "secondary roads". I am at work. The only reason why I could make it in was because our townhouse complex has two people with snow plows that were kind enough to plow out the complex (getting paid). And some massive trucks in the area smashed through the snow a few times to get it down to where I could get my car out onto a semi-major road that was cleared sometime ago but still has about 8 inches on it.
We got an estimated 36" of snow (that's three feet or a meter). Snow drifts were taller than me and most cars were completely covered... the parking lot looked like just a snow hill. BWI, the major airport in the area, was completely shut down from Friday until today (they may still be closed). It was estimated it cost $44 Million thus far to clear the roads, and they still aren't done.
I got to work today, although I probably should have turned around. Veteran's Highway (which runs parallel to 97 (a major highway)) was pretty much an ice sheet. 97 (the major north/south highway in maryland) was one lane with on and off ramps still barely cleared.
And even with the 3 feet of snow we did not get any government assistance. Why? Because the measurements are taken at the airport. The airport got 26 inches. How? I have no freaking idea. North, south, east and west of the airport were reporting a minimum of 33". Government only assists if it reaches 28 inches. Eff that.
And for christmas I bought Nat and I tickets to go to the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals hockey match, which was scheduled for yesterday at noon. Out of complete greed, the caps still decided to play, as it was a nationally televised game. The Penguins were up in Canada the afternoon prior to the game where they flew to New Jersey then took a 4 hour bus ride to the stadium, arriving somewhere around 2am. And since the game wasn't postponed, I lost about $250 for those tickets. Hell, the governor was on the air and said "It is absolutely ill-advised to attempt to make it into Washington, let alone on local roads." The metro (our underground rail system) was shut down except for the few stations that were completely underground. So I would have had to drive all the way into the heart of DC then attempt to find a parking spot.
And we had to cancel our home tours from Saturday.
So I am annoyed, in pain, and grumpy. But yes everything is fine. A lot of people were without power through the entire weekend, so hopefully they were able to stay at other locations until their power turns back on.
And we are supposed to get another 12" on Tuesday. Boo.
@Justin... I have no idea who that weather man is... but I wonder what he would have been like if he realized that 12"-22" was actually 30"-40".
And this is my coworker's car.

car? wot car?
Yeah, really - is the car that white lump closest to the tree?
Just got a call from my wife. Apparently some fucking ass hat parked in my car spot.
what an ass. hope that car isn't plannin' on stayin' there for the day.
If its not gone by the time I get home, I can promise you it will be stayin there for more than a day.
Step 1: Build a fort out of snow
Step 2: Put water on snow fort
Step 3: Allow the below freezing temperatures to kick in
Step 4: ??
Step 5: Profit. or rather, if laughing was a source of income, profit.
dude, if you're gonna put up a snow fort around it - make sure you pack that shiznit around the tires hardcore and icepack it in.
Sounds like your entire last few days were set to "suck" on all dials.
No chance of bunking off work and doing something useful with all that snow, like borrowing a 4wd and a large tea tray and running drag rides?
If I was back in Frederick I would be sledding down the field hills behind my house or playing paintball. Alas there is nothing fun to do here but watch shitty movies (hello GI Joe) and hang with the wife (a positive in this mess).
World. Of. Warcraft.
ugh man, was that your areas snowlapse?
Yep. And we are getting more right now estimated 10-16 inches. Boo. Apparently you are expected to be getting some tonight as well!
Tsk, long as the power keeps up, as well as your Net connection..
Well, extra days off, alone with the missus.
Two options, snuggle time or else extra play time.
Who said anything about days off? :(
Well, if you're snowed in, how do they expect you to get to work.
Dude, no one here asked you to share the bountiful mounds of snow wtf. >.<
Now that I got that outburst outta the way: considering all the snow you've received over the past five days, your showshoes and all that jazz - I'm-a call you Nanook. :D
*I* asked him to share his snow. My beer is *still* warm, and the grass here is brown and going "crackle" when you walk on it. A big chilly bin of snow within reaching distance of the hammock next to the BBQ would make things so much better.
Wat is this snow you speak of?
Although it did rain here today. If that makes you feel any better.
Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to smirking at everyone who doesn't live here =)
The proximity to hell melts the snow and causing rain across california.
*ahem*
Burn baby burn! Disco inferno!
DIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hi!
Hiya Pip :)
Hope YOU aren't getting buried in all this snow stuff too. You East Coasters and your silly weather, tsk tsk.
I've got snow, but nearly as much (I'd say I've received 1/3 of what Stigg's managed accrue over the past nearly a week's worth of time.
How's snow-free Cali? How's Disco?
Cali ain't snow free....our mountains and stuff got dumped on too this past week. Just nothing like what you East Coasters got hit with :P And nothing but a single day of rain here in sunny San Diego :)
And things are good Pip. Busy and hectic and unpredictable, but good! Hope everything is swell for you too lil buddy!
