I have to admit it, I love the LFG thing. Yet, it is a kind of two-faced love.
I love it when things go relatively well or smooth, when a dungeon is run the way it was meant to be (translated: people know and -do- their job well).
The flip-side?
I'd love to strangle the morons who a.) don't know their role; b.) those from column "a" telling others how to do their job; c.) as a tank, haven't even looked in to the defintion of "def cap" and is yelling at the priest, the dps and Optimus Prime for not doing their jobs cos god forbid it's the tank's fault; and, lastly, d.) when everyone rushes ahead despite the healer saying "Mana. Guys? I'm out of...fine, g'head, but when you die it's not my fault." (seriously, this isn't the prom...it's not a race to get to the end, give your healer time to mana up ffs).
Lolz moments (that don't have SSs to go with them, I'm afraid), so you'll just have to take my word for it.:
Normal ToC (shaman, rogue, hunter)
warrior: "Man, whenever I get this combo we always wipe."
2 wipes later...
Pipkin: "Ok, this is -real- simple...stay out of the goop. You stay out of the goop, it's a lot easier for the healer to, y'know, HEAL YOU. Secondly, one of you plate-wearers get the attention of that hunter OFF the healer. I can't do it, I'll go squish in like 2 seconds flat. Got it?"
warrior: "What goop?"
priest: "The green shit you keep standing in while you ask me for heals."
paladin: "Yeah, that goop is wicked."
Normal Oculus (2nd to last boss)
paladin (dps): "Oh my god, hold on, phone again. My kids are driving me crazy."
vote to kick...(because that was the 3rd phone call at that juncture and when i said to "hide behind a rock" when the boss teleports to the middle...she'd never re-emerged)
same run (last boss)
paladin (tank): "C'mon guys hurry, I'm hungry and dinner is getting cold. I'm starting so get up here." (said as he DISMOUNTS his drake)
me: "Y'know man, you were supposed to stay ON the drake?"
paladin: "HELZ! Heal me!"
shaman:"You are an insult to my healing at this point."
paladin: "I'M DIEING!"

Err... you know that Spell Penetration doesn't do anything in PvE, right?
On the LFG tool: yeah, I love it as well. I'm leveling a holy priest now and I haven't set foot outside of capitals for 20 levels or so. The traveling to and from them to sell stuff and train, coupled with the quick healer queues made this faster (or at least a lot easier) than trying to do quests in-between dugeons. That said, some groups are downright awful. Just today I got a ZF group where the tank was an arms warrior who just charged in and attacked one mob. The other 2 ran rampant, with one beating up me and the other chasing our hunter. I left that group before the first mob was down.
Anything? I thought it reduced the resist when calculating damage. Which is, for most purposes, useless in PVE (especially when damage is much more lucrative). Did they change that or get rid of resistances on bosses?
It does reduce resists, but only from players. Bosses still have some innate resists, but spell pen doesn't affect those, so it really doesn't do anything for your damage.
The standard for blue sockets are the Purified Dreadstones (12 sp / 10 spirit). The spirit increases your crit through Molten Armor. You should also glyph that if you want some more DPS, although the Glyph of Mirror Image deserves points for style =)
Where does the extra image appear btw? I've never seen someone use that glyph tbh =P
:P think of the added mirror (thus making, what, 4 total?)...like a mage's personal set of totems (that all cast frostbolt). and i glyphed that way cos it makes me laugh, 4 little pipkins runnin' around is funny to me.
Mirror Image is such a cool spell, but I think it's a shame that the actual images are mostly just a neat kind of sparkle that goes with the 30s fade effect instead of actually doing cool stuff themselves.
while it may not do anything "cool", those little images have saved my butt a few times (both from npcs and....people dumber than me, what, it's true. there are others dumber than me. :P).
i think it was, um, FoS..last boss. healer had died, dps plate had died, tank was quickly dying (dead at the end of it all), it was down to myself and the warlock. i think the warlock's demon was taking the brunt of it but at one point the big head jumped on one of my mirrors - time enough to crank out a shot or two while runnin'...advancing in the opposing direction.
sholazar basin..i was fishing (which is a good thing - weapon enchants give away the "real" one), and picked a flower that was nearby. well, that pissed off someone: whack...blink...invisible on/off..mirrors up...mass confusion :D (i actually won that fight).
hehe, nope didn't know that. :( yay for more re-gemming of things. >.<
in all honesty, unless it's a red gem, i'm kinda clueless. for a while i was thinkin' "more haste", but grr. green is absolutely ugh. dunno dunno, but thanks for the heads up to get rid of spell pen.
More haste is good. As an Arcane mage, you want to put sp in red sockets, sp / spirit in blues and sp / haste in yellows. Until you get a lot of it (around 3k-ish) spellpower is the absolute best stat with haste a good second.
alrighty, question then...at what point (if any) is x-amount of haste just stupid? (am asking cos a friend had, at one point, like 700 something haste - which kinda boggled the hell outta me).
That mostly depends on your definition of stupid =)
There is a cap: if your hasted cast time is less than 1 second (the hasted GCD), you still have to wait until the GCD ends before you can cast the next spell, so it isn't useful any more. However, to get your Arcane Blast to 1 second without cooldowns you need an ungodly amount of haste which is not possible with current gear.
Realistically, haste will always increase your DPS. The good thing with all our stats is that the other stats get better as you get more of one. So stacking anything doesn't do much good, it's much better to balance things out. I'm currently at 758 haste myself and I wouldn't mind a little more tbh =)
swapped spell pen gems, with exception of the pants (as they're part of the pvp set)
Damn dude, that is a smexy helmet! And it matches your tier gear as well! When you gonna get that 4 set bonus?!?! Whats your dps output now-a-days?
As far as that goop goes... when I was playing on my laptop I had to have all graphics set to absolute minimum. And with that goes -all- goop, ooze, smoke, and any other AoE looking thing. Made ToC freaking annoying and either FoS or PoS (the one with the guy chained) impossible.
i skipped over the 4 piece bonus, which may (may not) be a good idea. the hood is an upgrade from the tier set helm and, well, i'm savin' more marks for the shoulders (which is also an upgrade from the shoulder tier piece, as a stand alone). i just cracked 3k the other night, so i'm happy for the time bein'. :)
minimum settings would explain a lot of the "huh wha'" moments i've run into from time to time.
