It looks pretty good. Release date set for early to mid November, 2013. It is a series with a very good reputation, but I've never delved into it too deeply. That looks set to change ...
It does look pretty good. I played X-Reunion a LOT and funny I reinstalled it about 6 months ago but decided Id moved on from there too far. I think that's the feeling I get from this new one too. Okay the living breathing universe thing is a strong draw and it would be fun to se how that works if I destroyed stuff, but when it all boils down to the basics...its kind of a lot like EvE. That isn't a bad thing, its just I've been there and done that.
I admittedly never heard of this series before. Is it some kind of juiced-up Freelancer? It looks pretty impressive. I like the fact that you don't seem to be confined to the cockpit.
X3 Reunion was the predecessor. If you want to play something like that, have a look at it. It doesn't quite have the feature-set of the above but it was a very highly rated game of that ilk.
I remember playing "X2: The Threat" like mad8 or 9 years ago. The graphics were shite compared to "Rebirth", but good enough for the time.
After playing a few hours I completely ditched the storyline (which sucked more than a vacuum-cleaner) and started out as a merchant. After several hours speculating the market and running supply errands I'd earned enough to buy my first factory, and from there it all started rolling. A few days later I had numerous factories in several systems, with a fleet of merchant ships making runs between them and other factories. I found the whole trader thingamajig way more satisfying than hunting rebels/pirates/aliens/whatnot.
I recently got the X3 gold pack and started on "X3: Reunion" and my interrest waned somewhere during the tutorial. Interrested to see what they make of "Rebirth", though.
